The Art of Mold Making and Ceramic Shaping
At the heart of every ceramic pot is the silent artistry of mold making — a craft that shapes not just clay, but also imagination.
At Sapphire, we create each mold by hand or precision cast, depending on the design. For complex forms or large planters, we often use multi-part molds made from plaster or fiberglass, allowing for intricate textures and bold silhouettes. The mold is not just a tool — it’s the first sculpture, setting the foundation for every curve and line that will follow.
Once the mold is ready, our artisans pour or press clay into it with care and intuition. Timing is key — the clay must be just right: not too wet, not too dry. After shaping, the pot is released from the mold and left to rest, breathe, and slowly harden. This is when true craftsmanship begins: smoothing edges, refining surfaces, and adding final touches by hand.
Every form we create carries the essence of human touch and traditional know-how passed down through generations. It’s not mass production — it’s mold-making as a form of quiet mastery.
